Plaidoyer Victimes welcomes the introduction of Bill No. 4, the Act respecting the disclosure of information for the purpose of protection against intimate partner violence and amending various legislative provisions, which was presented yesterday to the National Assembly of Quebec by the Minister of Internal Security, Ian Lafrenière.
This bill aims to enable a person concerned about the risk posed by their intimate partner to obtain certain confidential information in order to make an informed decision regarding their own safety or that of their children. Inspired by the mechanisms of the Clare Act, already in place elsewhere in Canada and in England, the bill is part of a broader effort to prevent intimate partner violence and femicides.
Given that ten femicides have already been recorded in Quebec since the beginning of 2026, Plaidoyer Victimes believes that this bill could serve as another important “safety net” in the prevention of intimate partner violence.
