Being respected

  • You have the right to be treated with courtesy and compassion, without any infringement of your dignity or privacy.

Be informed

  • You have the right to be informed about the application of the extrajudicial sanctions program. Upon request, we can inform you of the identity of the young offender and the nature of the extrajudicial sanction imposed.
  • You have the right to consult the teenager’s file in court.

Having the opportunity to participate and be heard

  • If you wish, you have the right to participate in the handling of the adolescent’s case and to be heard in the extrajudicial sanctions program and in court proceedings.
  • You have the right to prepare and submit a victim impact statement to the court. This statement can be presented in writing, read aloud at the sentencing hearing, or presented in some other way, such as by video or audio recording.

Minimize inconvenience

  • You have the right to suffer as little inconvenience as possible as a result of your participation in the justice system.

Obtaining compensation

  • You don’t have a right to compensation, but the law encourages you to make good any harm caused.
