Under this law, you have the right to…
Be informed
- Upon request, you have the right to obtain certain information concerning the offender’s release. In certain cases (domestic violence, sexual assault, pedophilia), the Quebec Parole Board must take all possible steps to communicate this information to the victim or the person acting on the victim’s behalf.
Express yourself
- You have the opportunity to submit written representations on the impact of the crime on you and your loved ones to the Quebec Correctional Services before they make the decision on whether or not to grant the offender a temporary absence. The same applies to the Commission québécoise des libérations conditionnelles in the case of a temporary absence or parole.
- In your written submissions, you can express your safety concerns to the Quebec Correctional Services and the Quebec Parole Board, and these will be taken into account in their risk assessment of the incarcerated person.
